Mom's Home Cookin'
Monica Palmes Grabin
Monica been performing since she was a kid in New York's beautiful Hudson River Valley, where she  absorbed the musical influences of the folk revival, Gilbert and Sullivan (her first musical love), Golden records, the radio, and her father's  treasure trove of songs from the 20s, 30s and 40s. Since then, she has been singing for all kinds of audiences, from Greenwich Village coffeehouses to the students in many  Maine schools.

Since 1986, Monica's  major work has been as a presenter of historical/musical programs,  called
Singing History.  These have  been presented all over Maine and New England, mostly at schools, but also at historical societies, libraries, museums and for general audiences.  Monica has received numerous grants from the Maine Arts Commission, and is on the  Maine Touring Artists and Arts in Education rosters.  In the last few years Monica's offerings have grown to include in-service training for teachers. She also works as a
general performer  in many different venues, ranging from concerts for young children to strolls down memory lane for senior citizens.

Monica has been active for years in River Tree Arts, a local arts organization, and is the leader of the Kennebunk Folk Club's  monthly Song Swap. The Folk Club celebrated its twentieth anniversary in February of 2007.  Monica  plays guitar, banjo and autoharp, finger piano and various percussion contraptions, and doesn't practice nearly as much as she should, usually because the garden lures her.  She is a fanatic gardener, and spends a lot of time puttering there.
Monica lives in Kennebunk, Maine, with her (very supportive) husband, Bill. They have two grown children: Gabe and Brenna Rose, both out of the nest.  Both Brenna and Gabe have had to suffer through Mom performing in front of their peers, and seem to have survived the ordeal pretty well.  Monica is also happy in the kitchen, being an enthusiastic cook and baker.

Which brings us to Monica's latest endeavor: Mom's Home Cookin', a trio with Carolyn Mix and Dale Robin Lockman, specializing in old-time, classic American music. Dale Robin and Carolyn share Monica's love of traditional American music, as well as a large repertoire of fiddle tunes and contemporary songs. Mom's Home Cookin' is fun, friendly music by three ladies who love making music and have a blast doing playing together .
